Tallest Christmas Tree to Light up Dar Młodzieży

The tallest Christmas tree in the Tri-City this year will light up Dar Młodzieży

On Monday 6th December at 4:00pm, lights will be turned on illuminating the tallest Christmas tree in the Tricity – on the masts of Dar Młodzieży sailing ship.

HM Rector Professor Adam Weintrit and Mayor of Gdynia Wojciech Szczurek would like you to join them for the start of the illumination of the city for the festive season. The turning on of the lights will take place at exactly 16:00 and can be watched from the waterfront in Kościuszki Square, Gdynia.

Dar Młodzieży is a three masted frigate. The ship's tallest masts - the mainsail and foresail - are 49.5m tall, whereas the cutter mast is a little shorter at 46.5m in length. Christmas lights will decorate the tops of all the masts - at their tallest point at a height of 60m above sea level. Putting up the tallest Christmas tree in the Tricity required 500 metres of cable and more than 500 bulbs.

The tradition of illuminating Dar Młodzieży during the Christmas season began during the Independence Voyage in 2018 when the sailing ship spent December on the Los Angeles coast.
