GMU Takes Part in World Tourism Day Event in Gdańsk

On 11 October 2024 at Olivia Star in Gdańsk, a regional event was held as part of World Tourism Day 2024. World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually since 1980 when it was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO). This year’s event was held under the slogan ‘Tourism and Peace’. Celebrations in Gdańsk began with a debate entitled: “Sustainable Tourism – an Opportunity or a Challenge in the Current Times?”, featuring guest speakers Professor Anna Dziadkiewicz from the Faculty of Management at the University of Gdansk, and Piotr Ciechowicz, the Vice-President of the Pomeranian Development Agency. Also taking part in the event were staff from the Faculty of Management and Quality Science at Gdynia Maritime University, Dr Joanna Kizielewicz, Head of the Department of Management and Economics, and Dr Przemysław Dmowski, the Deputy Rector for Education.

The event is an opportunity to present state decorations and awards to outstanding individuals in tourism and the hotelier industry. Each year there is also a ceremony for the award of honorary badges for Services to Tourism, which are presented by the Minister for Sport and Tourism. This year’s awards went to Andrzej Demczak, Joanna Jagoda, Jarosław Kowalczuk and Sebastian Moś. Gdynia Maritime University staff have also received decorations at the event in the past, including Dr Joanna Kizielewicz, Dr Tomasz Studzieniecki, and Aleksandra Grobelna.

The Pomeranian Marshall also annually awards statuettes of the Pomeranian Griffin for overall contribution to the development of tourism and the tourism brand of Pomeranian. In 2024, statuettes were awarded to Dorota Reszke and Halina Rogińska. Other awards were also presented in categories such as Innovation in Tourism, Event of the Year, Tourism Offer, Personality of the Year, Investment in Tourism and more.

Our sincere congratulations to this year’s winners!
