GMU Academic Community Gets Involved in Tree Planting Campaign
On 23 April 2025, GMU students, authorities and Faculty administration staff took part in a spring tree planting campaign organised by the Forestry Agency in Gdańsk. Taking part in the event were HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, GMU Chancellor Filip Malata, the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs in the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, Dr Katarzyna Krakowska, the Director of the Maritime Operations Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonnek, and Dr Piotr Kopacz from the GMU Faculty of Navigation.
They were joined by more than 50 individuals from the University’s academic community who helped to plant oak trees as part of a national tree planting campaign. The tree planting took place on a site near Gołębiewo in the Sopot Forests, where a tornado swept through the area a year ago.
The coordinator and initiator of the event on behalf of Gdynia Maritime University was Dr Piotr Kopacz from the Faculty of Navigation. The event will last until Friday and aims to promote forestry education by showing participants that every tree planted is an investment which enriches the local ecosystem.
