Spring Open Day Success at GMU

More than 1000 secondary school pupils from places such as the Tricity, Elbląg, Toruń, Częstochowa, Białystok and Łodż took part in more than 30 lectures and workshops as part of the spring Open Day at Gdynia Maritime University.

The first Open Day of 2025, organised on behalf of the future students of our University is now behind us. The event took place on Friday 7 March 2025. On that day, those interested in studying at Gdynia Maritime University, the oldest maritime university in Poland, could take part in as many as 12 workshops and attend 30 workshops. Our guests also had the exceptional opportunity to gain access to the University's simulators and laboratories and attend showings in the University's A. Ledóchowski planetarium.

Speaking about the event, which as is tradition, took place in both the main University building on ul. Morska and at the Faculty of Navigation, HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, said:

I am extremely pleased with today's turnout during the Open Day. Within the walls of the University, we hosted more than 1000 people who came to us not only from Tricity and the surrounding areas but from all over Poland! I am convinced that among the participants of today's event are the future students of Gdynia Maritime University, and that they will join our academic community soon after the new academic year.

As Rector of the oldest maritime university in the country, I am particularly proud of our students who were involved in the Open Day as ambassadors of Gdynia Maritime University and supported the organisation of the event. Your involvement shows that being a GMU student is something more than studying and hard work - it's also about developing and realising your interests and passions, which is something you have the opportunity to do at our University.

During the Open Day, representatives from the University's five faculties, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Management and Quality Science, Navigation, and Computer Science were on hand to welcome guests in the T. Meissner Auditorium. Interesting stands were also put together by members of the University's student scientific circles. The stands were visited by many secondary school pupils, eager to see how they might develop their interests at the University.

Future GMU students also had the opportunity to find out about the study opportunities at GMU, including the rules and most important dates in the application process, in a presentation given by the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Dr Sambor Guze.

The Open Day also saw lectures given as part of the GMU project Local Advocates for Science.

A great deal of interest was also shown in a demonstration involving a Cobot, borrowed for the day to the Faculty of Computer Science by the company Robotpol. Other attractions included a Toyota Tundra specialist vehicle, belonging to the EVPL Electric Vehicles student scientific circle, which was on display in front of the main university building.

Our thanks go to all students and staff who helped to organise the Open Day. It is thanks to you that we managed to put on an interesting event.

The next GMU Open Day is planned for autumn 2025.
